  • My Topic:
Cities should use SNS for communication with the public

  • What I hope to learn from this source:
I need persuasive research data or evidence that could assert if cities has sns pages, the accounts will be good working to promote. First source, [The world's most active Twitter city], I hope to learn which cities are actively use sns not only the most but next ordered cities. The data means the ranked cities have the possibility that city sns pages will be more effective to the public. Second and third sources have actual case of city social networking service. In second source, I would get research information how social networking service interact with the public and what makes it attractive and enjoyable. Third source is gathering pages of City of Boston's sns account. I will look around the pages and how actively they work. I expect the pages still work and interact, providing prompt information about the city to the public.

  • Notes:
  1. The world's most active Twitter city is Jakarta. In addition to New York, Tokyo and London, Sao Paulo is in the top 5. And the number of 6 city, just ahead of Paris and Los Angeles, is Bandung, Indonesia.
  2. The top 5 countries in terms of Twitter accounts are the U.S., Brazil, Japan, U.K. and Indonesia.
  3. The world, of course, is only 140 characters away.  And Indonesia’s vast market of  237 million is closer than ever.
  4. Why not try to combine the popularity or SNS with public displays? The overarching idea was to make people interact more face-to-face by using conversational pieces from SNSs on a co-located public display.
  5. Project of UbinionThis project demonstrated that public displays can be used to effectively bootstrap a community into online SNSs, and showed public displays are efficient in reaching out to users who would be hard to reach using conventional communication streams.
