New added research : Big Data

  • Key words I can use
Social Analystics : Social Filtering, Social Network Analysis, Sentiment Analysis.
Social Media Mining -> Social Curation

(CITY OF SYRACUSE)
IBM Smarter City : Smarter Cities Challenge

  • Social Analystics
Measuring + Analyzing + Interpreting interactions and associations between people, topics and ideas. Social media analytics is a powerful tool for uncovering customer sentiment dispersed across countless online sources. This analysis is often called Social Media Listening or Online Listening. The analytics allow marketers to identify sentiment and identify trends in order to better meet their customers needs.

  • Social network analysis (SNA
The use of network theory to analyse social networks. Social network analysis views social relationships in terms of network theory, consisting of nodes, representing individual actors within the network, and ties which represent relationships between the individuals, such as friendshipkinship, organizations and sexual relationships. These networks are often depicted in a social network diagram, where nodes are represented as points and ties are represented as lines.

  • collaborative filtering

Also known as "social filtering" and "social information filtering," it refers to techniques that identify   information a user might be interested in. There are different kinds of algorithms used, but the basic principle is to develop a ratingsystem for matching incoming material. "Collaborative" means that a group of people interested in the subject define their preferences in order to set up the system. Collaborative filtering is used to create "recommendation systems"that can, for example, enhance your experience on a Web site by suggesting music or movies that you might like. See collaborative software and music recommendation service.

  • So what is Social Media Content Curation?

Social media content curation is simply filtering through all the interesting content across the web and sharing the best news, articles, videos and infographics on your social channels.

Classical Argument Outiline

1. The introduction, which warms up the audience, establishes goodwill and rapport with the readers, and announces the general theme or thesis of the argument.
City marketing, to promote a city, isn't familiar concept even though enormous people are living in city. I should introduce city marketing first as easy as possible. Introducing various interesting city marketing cases, I will bring up the problem that the cities are in difficult situation to promote. It's not good to both, cities and people. I hope the introduction makes readers grudge against missing a chance to know cities where they live or they are interested in because there are a few ways cities announce their treatments and attractions easily. Then, I argue that one of the good ways is using sns pages.
2. The narration, which summarizes relevant background material, provides any information the audience needs to know about the environment and circumstances that produce the argument, and set up the stakes-what’s at risk in this question. In academic writing, this often takes the form of a literature review.
Though most people know that using sns statics is growing as time goes by and major people have a active sns account, I will give more detail statics. Also, since I want to argue using SNS relevant to city marketing(promoting cities), I should consider how to show readers an efficiency of sns public display. Why should be sns? Actual example of City of Boston and sns collaboration with City of Oulu would be great go-ahead cases.
3. The confirmation, which lays out in a logical order (usually strongest to weakest or most obvious to most subtle) the claims that support the thesis, providing evidence for each claim.

I'll explain my logic in this order :
1. City marketing has been improved. However, there are few way to display the outcome. The public need easy and enjoyable method to approach the cities and SNS must be answer.
 2. Using SNS account citizens also have been increased. Treatments of sns, punctual, interactive, unburden and easy, make users enjoy SNS. SNS page is like a huge square. If cities start utilizing sns accounts, it's not only good for cities but people who can subscribe it(detailed in main draft.)
 3. Why cities use sns? : Then how cities use sns efficiently? What traits make sns become powerful promotion source and how can cities use it well? Why not 'Official Cites' but 'SNS'?
4. Big Data Marketing : What is Big data? and does it have any successful case?
 4. What's the expected result after active using of sns pages? : Detail in main passage. First in important is activated sns pages give credit that cities are working hard and always opened for opinion and claim. It arouse people to take part in development of city themselves.
4. The refutation and concession, which looks at opposing viewpoints to the writer’s claims, anticipating objections from the audience, and allowing as much of the opposing viewpoints as possible without weakening the thesis.
No idea yet :p
5. The summation, which provides a strong conclusion, amplifying the force of the argument, and showing the readers that this solution is the best at meeting the circumstances.
I finalize making sure that the most important in city promotion is interest of people. Then cities should agonize about how they can interact with the public. No matter how great attractions were prepared, people feel distant with information about unfamiliar and inflexible.

  • My Topic:
Cities should use SNS for communication with the public

  • What I hope to learn from this source:
I need persuasive research data or evidence that could assert if cities has sns pages, the accounts will be good working to promote. First source, [The world's most active Twitter city], I hope to learn which cities are actively use sns not only the most but next ordered cities. The data means the ranked cities have the possibility that city sns pages will be more effective to the public. Second and third sources have actual case of city social networking service. In second source, I would get research information how social networking service interact with the public and what makes it attractive and enjoyable. Third source is gathering pages of City of Boston's sns account. I will look around the pages and how actively they work. I expect the pages still work and interact, providing prompt information about the city to the public.

  • Notes:
  1. The world's most active Twitter city is Jakarta. In addition to New York, Tokyo and London, Sao Paulo is in the top 5. And the number of 6 city, just ahead of Paris and Los Angeles, is Bandung, Indonesia.
  2. The top 5 countries in terms of Twitter accounts are the U.S., Brazil, Japan, U.K. and Indonesia.
  3. The world, of course, is only 140 characters away.  And Indonesia’s vast market of  237 million is closer than ever.
  4. Why not try to combine the popularity or SNS with public displays? The overarching idea was to make people interact more face-to-face by using conversational pieces from SNSs on a co-located public display.
  5. Project of UbinionThis project demonstrated that public displays can be used to effectively bootstrap a community into online SNSs, and showed public displays are efficient in reaching out to users who would be hard to reach using conventional communication streams.

Research 1 : Social Networking Statics

  • Source:

[65% of online adults use social networking sites]
[2012 Statics.... The Big influences?]
  • My Topic:
Cities should use SNS for communication with the public
  • What I hope to learn from this source:
I want to get exact statics about how many people using networking have sns account and use sns. I hope almost usually enjoy sns such as Facebook or Twitter, especially the youth who could make cities more powerful and dynamic. (It doesn't mean elderly people are usless to promote cities!)

  • Notes:
  1. 92% of people who are 18-29years old use Social Networking Site
  2. Two-thirds of adult internet users (65%) now say they use a social networking site like MySpace, Facebook or LinkedIn, up from 61% one year ago. That’s more than double the percentage that reported social networking site usage in 2008 (29%). Moreover, most describe their experiences in positive terms. : It's good sign. People using sns experience their enjoymnet in positive way flankly. The recomment affect among their aquaintances. It must be good working to promote.
  3.  67% of urban people use sns, larger than suburban(65%) and rural(61%).
  4. When social networking users were asked for one word to describe their experiences using social networking sites, “good” was the most common response. Overall, positive responses far outweighed the negative and neutral words that were associated with social networking sites (more than half of the respondents used positive terms). Users repeatedly described their experiences as “fun,” “great,” “interesting” and “convenient.” Less common were superlatives such as “astounding,” “necessity,” and “empowering.”
  5. researchers asked open-ended question 'use one single word to describe your experiences using social networking sites', the answers 'Noisy' while another used the word, 'glitches.'

[Politician should/should not use SNS to communicate to the public]
[Capital cities around the world communicate to other city on network]
[Cloud System should be banned]

[Cities should communicate to the public on network(vitalization city own websites/ City SNS)]

SNS, the fasted and multi-direction communication systems are already pervaded. During I researched Copenhagen, Denmark for contest, I found that Copenhagen have had Twitter account and Facebook pages to promote and communicate, however, they didn't seem be working well. Though I needed to gather more information, abandoned pages allowed no information to use. Also, Incheon, Korea have made sns and blog account and even they are already closed two years ago and abandoned too. They all seemed not only they had no idea to interact but the cities doesn't be managed even they are not. I thought it could means activated networking pages are good ways to contribute to put ideas that a city is working to develop and communicate with the public into people's head.

Using sns marketing is prevailing in online and offline market cause a lot of people have account and access sns having purpose of usage.  How about using sns to promote cities all around world? What if people all over the world can look around what's happening in various cities? Isn't it good chance not only to cities but also people who use sns pages and is interested in trip or festival and so on? I have heard that many official cites change their field from 'official websites' to 'sns pages' because of immediacy and unweighted atmosphere sns pages have in newspaper article. (I'm afraid i can't find the article anymore.) I come up with a suggestion cities should have one or more sns account to interact others and make their images as opened and unburdened so that make everybody feel free to announce opinions.
